3D text generator: name plates and letters as STL

Type your text, choose a font and a style, and get an STL ready to print: a sign for a door, a name plate, a house number, letters for a model railway station, or a stencil. Sixteen free fonts, one or more lines.

How to use it

  1. Type your text. Press Enter for a second line.
  2. Choose a font and the height of a capital letter.
  3. Under Shape, choose raised letters (on their own or on a plate), engraved letters, or letters cut right through the plate as a stencil.
  4. Drag in the 3D view to look round it. Under the settings you see how big it comes out.
  5. Press Download STL. It lies flat, letters up, ready for your slicer.

Ideas

  • Door and house signs: a name or a number on a plate, in two colours of filament (swap the filament at the height where the letters start).
  • Name tags and key rings: small letters on a thin plate. Make a hole in the editor afterwards.
  • Model railways and dioramas: station name boards and shop signs, at the size of your scale.
  • Stencils for spray paint: the letters cut through the plate. Stencil fonts keep the middles of letters like O and A attached.
  • Gifts: a word, a date or a short quote on a stand.

Printing letters that look good

  • Make capitals at least 5 mm high on an FDM printer with a 0.4 mm nozzle; thinner fonts need more.
  • Raised letters of 1 to 2 mm on a plate of 2 to 3 mm print fast and read well.
  • For two colours without a multi-colour printer, pause the print at the top of the plate and change the filament.
  • Bold fonts (Barlow Bold, Oswald Bold, Bebas Neue) print cleaner at small sizes than thin or script fonts.

Questions

Is the 3D text generator free?
Yes. Try every font and style without an account. To download the STL you get a link by mail, which makes your free WAZO3D account at the same time; members download straight away.
Which fonts can I use?
Sixteen free fonts: sans serif, slab serif, monospace, stencil, handwriting, condensed, rounded, script, Gothic, typewriter and art deco. In the WAZO3D editor you can also load a font of your own.
Can I make more than one line?
Yes. Press Enter in the text field; the lines can be aligned left, centred or right, and the line spacing is a setting.
What size does it come out?
You set the height of a capital letter in millimetres. The width follows from the text and the font; it is shown under the settings.
Can I change the model afterwards?
Open it in the WAZO3D editor: add a hole for a screw or a key ring, put it on a stand, or combine it with other parts.
